Game Over!

What in your life makes you want to quit? Is it a job with unyielding stress and timelines? Is it someone whose constant torrent of criticism erodes all of your confidence and delight? Is it an addiction you can’t overcome despite unending tears and effort? Is it a chronic ailment that ruthlessly debilitates you? Is it a dream you are no closer to fulfilling because life keeps getting in the way? Life serves many situations that are daunting and overwhelming. There’s only so many times I can beat at the monolithic stone before the pain and fatigue scream to stop. All I want to do in those times is yell, “Game over!” and take my ball and go home.

But then a line tugs on my memory, “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.” I hear a faint whisper reminding me, “The joy of the Lord is my strength.” Soon hope starts to return, “My grace is sufficient for you.” And with hope comes new strength and endurance, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”

With God, it’s never game over. Rather the game is afoot!
