When I see the moon floating in the sky above me, I find my emotions filled with delight and gratitude. For me, the moon is an ever-present sign of God’s goodness and faithfulness to us.
Astrophysicist Hugh Ross, summarizing his chapter on the moon in his book, Designed to the Core, writes:
“Earth’s Moon is unlike any other moon in the solar system and beyond. Its unique formation resulted in its huge mass, far greater than that of any other known moon, relative to the mass of its host planet. This extraordinary mass and the manner in which it is distributed inside the Moon stabilized Earth’s rotation axis tilt and slowed down Earth’s rotation rate, a stability and a rate advanced life requires. The early proximity of the Moon to Earth and its temporary molten iron core enabled a “coupling” event that protected the early Earth from a solar wind that could have sputtered away Earth’s hydrosphere and atmosphere. Thanks to the Moon’s interior structure and the current size of its ever-widening orbit, animal ecosystems on Earth are optimized and the Earth-bound inhabitants can observe perfect solar eclipses — time markers that have enabled humanity to make discoveries of great significance for their civilization.”
This creation is surely designed by a boundlessly loving and abundantly generous Father so that we may safely live and flourish in him!
